BioVR: Biofeedback-Driven VR Fitness

Overview

BioVR is a VR fitness prototype that integrates real-time heart rate data into gameplay. The system connects a stationary bike and wearable sensors with a VR headset, adapting the virtual environment dynamically to the user`'`s exertion level. The project explores how biofeedback can enhance engagement and motivation in exercise.

My Contributions

I joined the project during the prototyping phase and was responsible for:

  • Game Mechanics Design - Designed HIIT-inspired workout cycles based on real-world indoor cycling, mapping them into VR levels. Developed progression rules and pacing tied to heart rate zones
  • Biofeedback Integration - Implemented heart rate-driven mechanics such as adaptive speed, environmental changes, and challenge pacing in Unity
  • 3D Character & Assets - Created a simple 3D avatar and animations in Blender, and produced interactive props for the VR environment
  • VR Development - Built and tested the prototype in Unity
  • Demo Video Production - Recorded, edited, and produced the final demo video showcasing the gameplay and system interaction
